The fairways run along our boundary.

You can see them from the garden. The clubhouse and first tee are a 1.1km drive away, three minutes door to door. Wainui is an 18-hole championship course laid through the natural contours of the valley, with the Orchard 9 short course and driving range open seven days a week alongside it. Green fees are open to visiting golfers — no membership required, just a tee time.

We're 30 minutes north of Auckland city, so it's an easy drive in, round on the course, and back to the Lodge for the afternoon.

Four or more? Take the whole wing.

Its own private entrance, the Great Lounge for the evening, four ensuites — each with a double spa bath to soak the legs after eighteen holes — and space to store clubs and wet weather gear out of the way.

  • Sleeps eight, two per room
  • From $188 each a night
  • Two-night minimum

Smaller groups and couples travelling together can book individual rooms instead, each with its own balcony or patio and the same self check-in — so there's no reception desk between the eighteenth green and a shower.

The New Zealand Women's Open

The course everyone's about to be watching.

The New Zealand Women's Open, presented by Craigs Investment Partners, returns at Wainui Golf Course, co-sanctioned by the Ladies European Tour and the WPGA Tour of Australasia. Olympic champion Dame Lydia Ko is confirmed to play. For guests, that means a rare kind of proximity: walk the fairway you can see from your balcony, then watch the same holes on TV.

2027 is the first year of a four-year agreement that keeps the tournament at Wainui through to 2030. Families, sponsors and touring golf fans booking around tournament week will find us closer than anywhere in Auckland — our four rooms and the Whole Wing go early for that week.

Dinner at The View

Above the 18th, five minutes from your room.

Wainui's own clubhouse restaurant, The View, sits above the 18th with the kind of outlook its name promises — high ceilings, glass, and the whole course rolling out below.

It runs an all-day menu, from cabinet food and bar snacks through to an evening plate, so it works equally well for a casual lunch after your round or a dinner out without leaving Wainui.

A links hole in the dunes at Te Arai, an hour north of the lodge
The day trip

Te Arai Links, an hour up the coast.

Two pure links courses built into the dunes above the Tasman, both drawing golfers from well beyond New Zealand to play them back to back. It's a full day out — the drive alone is part of it, coastal road most of the way. Guests staying more than a couple of nights use it as the second round: Wainui on your doorstep, Te Arai as the trip you tell people about afterward.

Common questions

Is there accommodation near Wainui Golf Course?

Yes — O'Grady Lodge borders the Wainui fairways, with the clubhouse and first tee a 1.1km drive from your room. Rooms from $290 a night, each with its own ensuite, double spa bath and private balcony or patio, so you can walk off eighteen holes and be back in yours within minutes. We're 30 minutes north of Auckland CBD and 15 minutes from Orewa.

Where can a golf group of six to eight stay together?

The Whole Wing sleeps eight across four ensuite rooms, each with its own spa bath, plus a private lounge and deck with an open fire — all with its own entrance, separate from the main house. For a group of eight, from $1,500 a night — under $190 each — with a two-night minimum, 1.1km from the first tee.

Is the lodge a good base for a Te Arai Links trip?

As a day-trip base, yes. Te Arai is just under an hour north, so you can play a round there and be back in your room the same evening — with Wainui next door for a second round without moving hotels.
